Editors Note

I have been so busy with the website redesign that I couldn't think of anything to submit for the February newsletter. I hate to miss a month, but it happens...

The site is ready, and I can concentrate a little better on the tasks at hand.

If there is anything you would like to see added (or taken away) from the site, please let me know...more information, better colors, more pictures, I'm always up for suggestions. Stay tuned! There's lots more to come.

Ghost in the machine

A Traverse City woman's home telephone has been reaching out and touching people across the country by the thousands, without her knowledge. And she doesn't even have long-distance service.

Sivek's home phone number shows up on the caller ID boxes of those being called, allowing recipients - some of whom have been called more than 20 times per day - to call her back.

Ameritech officials refused to comment except to say they are investigating the problem.

Tax dollars at work

Actually, this is a good thing. The FCC website offers many pages of helpful information, including making sense of your telephone bill, defines "cramming", and how to make the right choice for your long distance.

The number one reason to use a headset

A Dilbert cartoon shows the best reason of all.

Joke of the day

On a recent evening my family sat in a darkened theater waiting to see the latest hit movie. As the screen lit up with a flashy ad for the theater's concession stand, we noticed the sound was missing. The unexpected silence continued for several moments.

Then out of the darkness, an irritated voice in the crowd demanded, "Okay, who's got the remote?"
