Happy Halloween!

I guess I'm just a big kid at heart, but Halloween is one of my favorite times of the year. The changing colors of the leaves, the mild weather, and wafting aromas of flowers and cinnamon. The one day of the year that children (and many adults) can be whatever they want to be.

A few years back, I carved a pumpkin and wore it on my head as a costume. No, I hadn't been drinking, and the kids loved it. Not that it was the most pleasant thing I've ever worn, but it was different and my kids always smile thinking about that.

Now they expect me to do something crazy like that every year...guess I didn't know what I was getting myself into.

Here are some neat Halloween sites that you and your kids may enjoy:

I recently added several more pages to our website with the addition of a newsletter archive. If you have missed some issues, you may easily review some of the tips and tricks from the past.

I also wanted to provide a newsletter in full color for those of us who are a bit weary of the constant black-and-white emails, that don't have clickable links. The past issues have been edited for easy reading.

You can see this at https://phonex1.tripod.com/newsletters.html

Freebies for our subscribers

As a gesture of my appreciation to our subscribers, I have created a page of freebies; free offers, free software and free money.

This page is accessible in two ways;

There are currently about 10 offers, but I will be adding more freebies as I find and research them, to make sure that they are worthy and reliable. I will also notify you of updates, so that you won't miss out on any specials.

Holiday gift ideas

Although it's not even Thanksgiving yet, there are alot of folks that are starting early. Some folks like the idea of the Christmas crowds, being part of the season and all. But the rest of us would rather enjoy a more relaxed pace by taking care of a few things early on.

Headsets are very useful around the workplace, and will make great gifts for the folks on your list as well. Here are a few ideas:

The CT10 Cordless Headset Telephone for hands-free convenience around the home. While you are relaxing for the evening, getting dinner ready or for heading out to the mailbox, this cordless headset will give you the range you need.

Computer tip of the month

That gawd-awful screech from your computer's modem can start to be a tad annoying. Here we will talk about how to turn the volume down, or turn off the sound completely.

Select "Start", "Settings", then "Control Panel". Double-click the "Modems" icon. Select your modem, then click the "Properties" button. On the "General" tab, you'll see an option called "Speaker Volume" with a sliding control that can be set from loud to off.

Some modems can be a bit trickier, so if that doesn't seem to work, go through the steps again, and click on the "Connection" tab. Clicking the "Advanced" button will display the "Extra Settings" field. Click inside that field, then type in "ATM0" (no apostrophes, and a zero at the end). This will silence the modems speaker.

If you want to simply tone the sound down a bit, type in "ATM1" to allow the sound until a connection is established.

After you have done this, click "OK" and you'll have a quiet modem.

Joke of the day

The child was a typical four-year-old girl - cute, inquisitive, bright as a new penny. When she expressed difficulty in grasping the concept of marriage, her father decided to pull out his wedding photo album, thinking visual images would help. One page after another, he pointed out the bride arriving at the church, the entrance, the wedding ceremony, the reception, etc.

"Now do you understand?" he asked.

"I think so," she said, "is that when mommy came to work for us?"
